the challenge

The Winspear Opera House will be located in the center of the Dallas Arts District, on a site adjacent to the existing Meyerson Symphony Center, and across the street from a the new Wyly Theatre. The Winspear Opera House will be the performance home for The Dallas Opera, and will host other lyric theatre arts where excellent opera acoustics and sightlines would be valued.

The auditorium is designed to achieve world class opera acoustics, sightlines and architecture in an auditorium seating 2200 listeners comfortably. The site is located under a flight path and adjacent to the outdoor popular music of Annette Strauss Artist Square.

Design is proceeding to early 2006, and construction is scheduled to complete in 2009.

the team

Sound Space Design is responsible for the acoustics, including auditorium design, services noise control and sound isolation. Design architect is Foster and Partners, working with local architect Kendall/Heaton Associates. Theatre Consultant is Theatre Projects Consultants.
