the challenge
Uppingham School has a long established and highly respected music program
to go with its academic excellence. SSD is working with architect ORMS on a new music building containing teaching studios, practice rooms and a small recital/rehearsal room.
The acoustical challenges have included planning restrictions on height and sound emission to the neighbourhood. We have focused on cost effective solutions to separating practice and teaching studios from each other, with a combination of in-situ construction and pre-fabrication. SSD is providing full acoustics consulting services, including sound isolation, services noise control and room acoustics.
